Our Model
We know it can be a little confusing because The Tacoma Project is built on a unique model, something you won’t find anywhere else in the field right now. At our core, we are two entities working together cohesively:
Advanced Mental Health of Washington (AMHOW) – our licensed 2.1 outpatient behavioral health agency that provides all clinical services.
Where Do They Go Foundation – our non-profit housing entity that makes sure clients have safe, supportive housing while they heal and rebuild. Together, these two entities create a wraparound model of care that mirrors the structure of an inpatient, but with the freedom and flexibility of outpatient. Clients live with us, stay engaged in treatment, and receive holistic support for 6–9 months, long enough to build a foundation for lasting change.
The Tacoma Project is not just “treatment.” It’s a comprehensive ecosystem built around 8 integrated programs:
Mental Health – therapy and counseling for trauma, depression, anxiety, and co-occurring disorders.
Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment – evidence-based recovery services.
Day Treatment – holistic healing through art, yoga, gym, and NA/AA community integration.
Peer Support – lived experience guiding and encouraging recovery
Case Management – FCS supportive housing, employment, and benefits navigation.
Medical Services – access to ARNPs, med management, and integrated care.
Outreach – connecting with individuals, providing streamlined referrals and building community partnerships so their is no gaps in the continuum of care.
Reentry – jail-based services and care coordination to ensure no one falls through the cracks.
Addiction and homelessness are rarely “just one thing.” They are layered with trauma, mental health challenges, systemic barriers, and broken trust. Our model was built to address all of it, not just one piece. That’s why clients don’t just “get clean” - they gain stability, housing, employment, reconnection with family, and a new sense of self-worth.
The Tacoma Project isn’t just a program it’s a pathway to dignity, healing, hope, and LONG-TERM stability.
